Our Book

To celebrate 100 years of British Dutch ANS published “North Sea Neighbours.” Paul Dimond ANS member and former senior diplomat served as an inspiring editor for this unique publication. It features expert stories on cooperation, sports, and cultural exchange, this anthology marked our centenary in style.

North Sea Neighbours

While the 75th anniversary was celebrated by a publication of several dozen pages, the centenary in 2020 was the occasion to produce a proper book. Named ‘North Sea Neighbours, British and Dutch Interaction over 100 years’ it consists of more than thirty stories about British-Dutch connections written by experts in their fields.

The articles are grouped in categories:

A hundred years working together

Building bridges

Co-operation in war and peace

Friends and rivals: sport

Contact and exchange

From the back page;

A warm welcome to all readers of this anthology in our celebration of the Centenary of the Anglo-Netherlands Society.

This is a selection of representative essays across many walks of life we found to be significant. They are a mix of the serious and the light and may reflect the idiosyncrasies of both nations. Looking ahead, we shall maintain and enhance activity for members and welcome millennials among all generations of British and Dutch individuals and families involved or interested in this special North Sea relationship.
We shall continue our outreach and encouragement to the UK universities where Dutch Studies have also survived for 100 years; we shall aim to develop our communication with members to meet their expectations.
Dick van den Broek
